From what I've understood all along, the valvetrain in this car is noisier than most. It's not a bad thing, it's just you can hear the slight tapping of the valves opening and closing. I'm pretty sure everybody else's car does the same thing. Unless you've noticed the car running strangely/poorly, I wouldn't get worried.

Could be timing chain tensioner(TCT)... Those are noisy when going bad...

If the noise is centralized over the black plastic cover to the right of the valve cover, its most likely the injectors. If it sounds like a baseball card in the spokes of a bike wheel, its most likely the tensioner. If the shop you took the car with is familiar with the S2K and its noises, then I would give their diagnosis a second thought. Take a screwdriver, place the handle to your ear and move the metal end around the valve cover making note of the sound above each cylinder. You won't hear exactly the same pitch from over each, but if you hear a tap tap click click from one more than another, then you may have found the cause.

good lord thats f'n ridiculous. good thing you were under warranty. no way It should be that expensive.. its quick and easy. I think there was a guy on here that had never touched his engine before but was convinced by someone to change the tensioner himself. he did it no problem in little time
