Default Valve Train Clatter at Start-up

How long is chatter noticeable after start-up in your car? Did changing to a high quality synthetic make a significant difference?

You may have an oil pump problem if its considerably longer than that.

Try a valve adjustment first.

The car has 10k miles and has always had some minor chatter at start-up, but less apparent with a good synthetic. After about a minute or two it's silky smooth.

If that is where you are at, try the eunos 50WT, quiet as a baby.

Ya id say that would even be overkill for a track only car

Search for Timing chain tensioner noise @ cold start. There have been several videos posted of noisy chain tensioners.

I looked up the TCT vid links and that's definitely not the noise. I should go test drive a new '09 and see how it sounds.

There are no lifters or cam buckets, the cam rides on top of the rocker, and the rocker opens the valve.

Like all "solid" cam engines, some noise will be heard from the direct contact between the rocker and valve tip.
