Default Valve cover rubbing hood...engine mounts?

I have purchased the 04-05 valve cover with the upgraded pcv design but noticed my old valve cover has quite a bit of wear pictured. It seems as if its rubbing the liner underneath the hood. Before I install the new cover I would like to solve this dillema. Upon shaking my engine by hand front to back, its solid as a rock but side to side there is about 3/4 inch of movement. The engine mounts are not leaking any fluid or look busted. Is this is a sign of bad mounts, bad transmission mounts, or something else? Thanks in advance!

Yeah, what aftermarket hood do you have?

The stock motor mounts are solid rubber. When they fail, the motor can lift and rub the hood. So that might be your issue.

Checked the mounts tonight, the engine mounts look brand new and the transmission ones also seem to have been replaced. Has anyone removed the hoods fabric underliner? Maybe it would give the clearance needed...

The clearance the factory set between the valve cover and the hood is fine if (a) you still have a stock hood and a stock valve cover (which it appears you do) and (b) motor mounts are good.

Even though they may look good, sounds like you have bad mounts allowing the motor to rock back and forth far enough to come up and actually rub the hood--removing the hood liner is not the solution-- have someone check the mounts asap....Its not a good thing to have gravity and the transmission being the only thing holding your engine in place....

Being able to shake by hand that much is a little crazy. I can't imagine how much it moves under a load.
