Default Valve clearance - dependant on age or mileage?

So I've just bought my S last week, it's a 2L 2004 with 27,000 miles on it. It has very low mileage, but is 10 years old. It was owned by an older person who drove it very easily, it's not had a hard life at all.

I'm sending it in next week for fluid changes, and am wondering if it's worth while getting the clearances checked? The car is running beautifully, and I don't really want to have the dealer disassembling things unnecessarily. Should I get them to check, or leave it as the car is running perfectly and has only done 27,000? It's not that I mind paying to have it done, more that I don't trust the workmanship in this country. That it's running well makes me not want to have people poke about with it.

*Note: It's a 2L 'AP2' because over here we didn't get the engines updated to 2.2L

I wouldn't have them adjusted. You're right, it's only worth having someone get into the head if it needs to be done. And if it's running nicely, there's no reason to risk ruining a good thing if you don't have total faith in the mechanics near you. But it would be worth your while to find someone who you do trust with the car to help you learn how to do things like valve adjustments yourself in the future.

I wouldn't let the dealer touch them, but yes they can absolutely be out of spec after 27,000 miles. If you can do the work yourself, I'd inspect them, but wouldn't pay for someone else.

It takes a few minutes to pull the valve cover off. They have feeler gauges on amazon for pretty cheap, if you're not to mechanically inclined, find a knowledgeable shop that deals with Hondas or the S2000.
There are a few valve adjust how tos here also.

I wouldn't trust a dealer though.
If you've read through the "Things people have said about your S2000" thread, people aren't really sure what the car is lol.

I think it's the 06+ that have been having the exhaust valves get tight around ~25k miles.
You're probably good. I think it's primarily based on mileage.
But I would pull the VC and at least check them. It's really not that difficult to check.
Don't let a dealer do it, imo.

I called my local Honda dealership to get a couple oil filters and when the parts counter guy asked what car I had I told him and he didn't even know what an S2000 was... not even freaking kidding

Oh god lol....
I can say the same about my AR too lol...(Kinda some know what it is)

MY06+ the exhause valve get tight. I think the recommended adjust was every 15,000miles.

If the valve train gets too noisy or too quiet is the only time I would check for valve clearance. Otherwise enjoy, despite what you may read here these cars are pretty reliable, if you treat them right they'll last over 200,000 miles. Most of the people here with problems beat the living $hit out of them or may not drive them as smoothly as they would want. Also storing the car for long periods without taking the proper precautionary steps will lead to premature wear.

Even if you don't drive it often it's a good idea to check your suspension, bushings, pulleys, seals, using a fuel stabilizer, and to change fluids, such as break fluid, lubricants, and cooling system based on the recommended time intervals.
