Default Valve adjustment while cold or hot?

Should I adjust them after the car has been sitting overnight or after a 20 minute drive?

Let car sit overnight. Valves are done cold.

Thanks guys!

Also, someone suggested this tool to make it easier:

Will that work?

You can do it with a deep socket and a screwdriver, it helps with cylinder 4 on the intake side that's for sure.

Thanks again guys. I bought the tool and I shall do my first ever valve adjustment this weekend. Is there any possible way to check for cracked retainers just by inspecting them with a mirror?

You can tell if the valves are uneven. Look at the link above for detailed pictures.

Here's an excellent DIY for a valve adjustment should you run into any problems or have any questions.
