In my 03,w/90k miles,I usually get 30 on the hwy....driving the SL +3 with the AC off.

AC knocks approx 4 off and driving the SL +10 is a mileage killer with any car.

We didn't buy these cars for the MPG rather for the SPG ( smiles per gallon).

I have an 09 with 40K. Driving hard in the city:23mpg. Usual mix 25-26. Fast freeway:28. Last month drove over the Tioga pass in Yosemite and only drove 25-35 mph as the traffic and the view demanded. I was thinking I had a fuel gauge malfunction but when I filled up and did the math I got around 34-35mpg. Blew me away. The gauge was accurate.

I did the valve adjustment last night. There were 1 big adjustment and a few minor ones

#1 - fine
#2 - exhaust 1 valve (minor)
#3 - both intake valves (minor)
#4 - 1 intake valve was loose which I thought was odd, I was able to fit a .11 gauge in with not much resistance.

After tightening everything up and putting the car back together I instantly noticed better throttle response. I didn't realize how sluggish the car was until after I drove it. Hopefully that will do something to the gas mileage. I'll post something up after my long drive this weekend.

I had some time after work and decided to do a compression test to see where I saw. I started with Cylinder #1 and got results of 195, 225, 240 - and was like WTF . This was a new gauge and the numbers seemed to be getting progressively higher so I chalked it up to the tester being new. I moved on to Cylinder #2 and figured I would come back to 1 last here are the results -

#2 - 240, 240, 240, 240
#3 - 240, 250, 260, 250
#4 - 255, 260, 255, 255
#1 - 240, 240, 240, 240

I was slightly concerned with #3 because of the 20 PSI swing but the compression is still really strong. So here are my questions -

Will the car benefit from a valve adjustment even though the number seem pretty strong?
Should I be worried about #3 because the numbers aren't super consistent?
Is there anything else I should consider when trying to improve gas mileage?
Your comp numbers are awesome Still a new car.

Thanks the car has been maintained pretty well and the engine has never been abused. Although I was still impressed with the numbers I got. Thanks.

I am happy to report that after my trip to VA this weekend the car got 28.1 MPGs which includes driving with the ac on half of the way. IMO the valve adjustment definitely made a difference.
