I went ahead and adjusted the valves today. The process went smoothly (second time on the S). My brain took a vacation when I went to start the car after getting everything put back together. I left the socket wrench on the crank pulley!

I cranked the engine over once, heard a noise that was definitely not normal, and released the start button immediately. The engine never caught fortunately. I went under the hood to perform damage assessment, and the only thing I found was a little hose just dangling. It has an inline, white valve of some type and the hose attaches itself to the stock airbox via some simple clips. Well, the hose goes to some black plastic box that appears to be sealed with the exception of one hose going in (the one I broke off) and one going out. This box sits right below the airbox, and gets bolted directly on the frame structure that runs between the shock towers.

I super glued the little nipple back on, reinstalled everything, and the engine seems to run fine. I'll probably replace the part with a new one, but what is it?

EDIT: Forgot to mention, you guys/gals that replaced your stock intakes with the tube style intakes can probably see exactly what I'm talking about. It's in plain view with the stock intake removed. Sorry for not having pictures, I really need to get a digital camera.

Thanks for the fast reply, yes I'm very lucky that this was the only part that's broken. Fortunately, the socket wrench I was using was a short one so it didn't hit much. I kind of hit the steering gearbox casing, but it didn't even dent or scratch it.

Well, at least now I know what to ask for when I order the part. I figured it was a one way valve of some type because I could blow air through it easily one way, but the other way was met with some resistance. Thanks again.

Wow, that thing is pretty expensive. I'm not sure exactly how it works since it doesn't seem to have any moving parts in it. When I get a new one, I'll probably break the old one open just for curiosity's sake.

As far as cost goes, 17 bucks is a lot for a little plastic box, but it could have been worse.

Whoops, I was looking at the diagram wrong. The part that I actually broke a piece off of is part 3, the Vacuum Tank. So it's only $13.00 now. I'm about to take a little test drive to make sure everything is okay.
