Valve Adjustment Problem
#13
yeah reset the ecu
unplug battery for like ten minutes then start the car and let it idle for like 5 - 8 minutes and it will learn how to idle
then drive it around!
I do this after any type of modification (exhaust, valve adjustment, ..) i was told that what is necessary so make sure you dont forget

Don't _just_ unplug the battery for 10 mins.
1. Disconnect the batt.
2. Pull out the 'backup' fuse in the main fuse box (under dash).
3. after a few (like 15) seconds replace the fuse.
4. hook the battery up again.
5. put the code for the stereo and the radio presets.
6. let the car idle, _don't_ help it with throttle when it almost stalls.

Not wanting to thread jack or anything but i have a question...so when I went to a car show the other day we had to have our batteries disconnected and after the show when I started to drive back home the car was having problems with idle. Like when I pressed in the clutch it would go all the way down to a bar or two and then gradually go back up and it only lasted for like 15 mins. Was that the cause because it had to relearn its idle? If that is the case does that mean I probably need to do a valve adjustment on mine already? If it had to relearn an idle then it would have a little bit of a difference then stock valve adjustments and would make it do that right??

1. A lot of ticking clatter noise
2. Idle hesitation
3. Sluggish acceleration
4. Car had 107k miles without a single adjustment
5. Was sitting on jackstands for 2 weeks so I had some free time
6. I didn't want to waste money so I had the confidence to do it myself (never opened a valve cover in my life)
Results: Other than the idle problem (had a vacuum leak/bad plugs) the engine idles a lot smoother now, the clatter noise minimized, the engine response was defiantly increased, and I hate to say it but my even my mpg went up a tad. Feels like a new car!

however if you have the tapping sounds etc and want to adjust the valves anyway you should go ahead and get it done.
