IMO, If your not competent enough to perform your own service on your S2000, You should not have an S2000. It's very easy to do a search on the forum here and fix ANY problem your S2K might have with good instruction from fellow members.
You don't have to be all grease-monkey nazi on the OP, esp If you don't have anything to contribute to solve his problem.

Better to have them on the slightly loose side vs. tight.

Old proverb: Valves/rockers are like children, worry about them when you *don't* hear them!

The amount of ticking you hear now may be perfectly normal, but noticeably louder than if the clearances are way too tight.

keep in mind that injectors click on this an all Honda engines as well, so there will always be some background noise. Also, I noticed that my valvetrain noise increased after I put on a Mugen header and no heatshield, seems like the exhaust valve noise travels easier through thinner walled headers and no shield.

I service my own car and love doing so. Having said that some people have too much money and not enough time so they choose not to, doesn't mean they shouldn't own an s2k. Also it's easy to read an article on the forum, it's another to follow through. A noob takes off the wheels and uses the car's mickey mouse jack to raise the car on a less than ideal surface, then when the jack fails or slips they die. It happens a lot.

just gotta say... some people are smart enough to know that maybe they should not work on their own vehicles if they are not comfortable. Some of us are mechanically inclined, some are not. Being a mechanic, I would MUCH rather those who are not mechanically inclined just not even try, even with step by step instructions. The problem is (like some mention) finding a competent mechanic; and not just competent, but one who gives a flip.

And some people like me.... Im 21 ive had 3 civics and did all the maintaining of the cars while I was living with my parents. Now I live in an appartment and can not work on my own car because I have nowhere to do it. Plus if I screwed something major up in my civics it was $300 for a new motor do the same to an S2000 its a $4000 new motor. I do the maintenance on my S2000 but cant afford screwing something major up...

That happened here recently. A guy was under a car and it came off the jack and onto his head. Neighbor found him and had to ring the doorbell to tell his wife. A reminder to use jack stands.

Not saying a valve job is rocket science (haven’t done one yet), but it’s good to realize you may be in over your head and rely on a pro.
