VAFC Tuning in the long run
I heard that VAFC settings will eventually get overun by the ECU, the ECU will compensate for the changes to the point where the VAFC setting will be gone after a period of time. I read something about this on s2ki and it happening to a prelude. Any thoughts on this? Anyone knows how long the settings last on the VAFC before the ECU compensates for it? When this happens all we need to do is reset the ECU right and everything should be as they were correct?

it is true.... i dunno how long it'll last for... there's really no telling.... i've had mine tuned for about 6 months... and ehhh.. i feel a little difference now... but then again.. i'm used the the difference that it made.... but the ecu does compensate after a while.. only thing that'll stay the same from your vafc settings is the vtec setting....
as for resetting the ecu..i'm not sure if that'll work... if it does it would be great..

Tony, eventually the ecu will over ride. But all you have to do is reset the ecu. Or if dont even want to bother with that pull the ecu fuse and it will reset every time you start it!

I don't think that is totally accurate.
Our ECU will overrun PART throttle settings eventually. If you tuned part throttle settings those will be wasted.
WOT is a set map, you can tune for wide open throttle and the settings will remain.

Think of it this way... why would APEXi even release an S2000 version if everything was overrun? You can make a much more simple device to change your VTEC changeover point.

If all you want to do is change the crossover point, all you need is a counter for the tach signal, dip switches to set the crossover point, and a lead to your VTM signal. You still have to suffer with the "dead zone" (ie: you are on the big cam because you changed the crossover point, but you are still on the small cam fuel/timing map because you are below ~6000 RPM). But it is not that horrible for most people.
You could probably modify modifry's tach beeper thing amer bobber for $100. Just use the beep signal for the VTM signal. But alas, I am not an electrical engineer and I don't know if the beep signal is compatible... so don't blow yours up and blame me please!!!!
