Default VAFC Probs with AEM CAI, HKS Exhaust combo?

Anyone out there have similar mods? Any probs?

Before I installed the VAFC everything was fine with the AEM CAI & HKS exhaust.

Then I installed the VAFC & it seems like after long stints of driving the car would suddenly not hit V-Tec. Kinda like it was bouncing off the rev limiter at 6K! Emission light would come on.
Once I turned the engine off it reset itself & was fine.

I just had another tuner re - dyno the car and re tune the VAFC. More agressive settings this time. Then yesterday (hot day 35 deg celcius!) I hopped in my car & pulling away in first & second gear, normal traffic driving, and the car died on me. Emission light came on again. I tried three times to restart & it did the same thing as soon as I started to pick up some revs.

I turned the car off for 1 min, and it seems like everything was fine again. I went back to the tuner and he just added some fuel thru the VAFC at 1k,2k,3k saying it was probably leaning out.

I asked member on the Aust forum but keen to hear other opinions as to what might be going on? Does the VAFC have a temp sensor or effect the standard one? I am concerned because everything was fine on my car til I installed the VAFC.

Help would be appreciated...please

Its most likely a problem with your VAFC and the Settings. Was there a problem before you had your car tuned? Was the VAFC installed correctly?

post your settings I know most people dont like going under -10 on fuel (WOT) i only have one that is under and its -11 at 9000 rpms. When you post your settings I might be able to tell you the problem, also make sure its on 4 cylinder mode , mine was on V6 and it wouldnt go above 6500 so check that also.

Hi guys. It was previously my V-AFC and I did the install. It has a full plug and play harness and I've done a few so I don't think there is a physical problem.

When I installed it had the correct settings for an S2000 with all the fuel maps 0'd.

My suggestions to Chuckie have been to write down all the settings and then zero it (0 fuel maps, set VTEC to 6000 up, 5800 down) and see if you still have a problem. If not, then I would suggest it is the settings. If yes, then try removing the VAFC. If it doesn't have a problem then it must be either the wiring or the VAFC itself.

And of course, I'm always happy to help out.

Hi AusS2000

It doesn't happen all the time. I thought it was when I had been driving for a long time but it did it yesterday as soon as I took off after it was parked. Could it be heat? I just had C & V reset it on the Dyno on Sat.

I will get the new settings tonight, they are more agressive than the previous ones. I just took it for a long drive to Castle Hill and it was fine. Weird huh?

Shadow_S2K - There was no problem with the car before it was tuned.

have you got a AF ratio dyno graph?
the settings on the Wide throttle looks ok
The settings on the low throttle is a waste of time because your ECU will go in close loop. I dont think it's the cause of your prob though. You can null that and see if it makes any difference

I will soon put my VAFC, harness and radio door on the for sale forum. May be *cheeky face + flame suit* you could buy it off me and give it a try to see if my previous theory is correct or not

What was your previous theory?

If it's with regards to a problem with the V-AFC or harness then he can test that just by zeroing and possibly removing.

I've been suggesting this for ages but for some reason it's been ignored. I've even offered to help. It really isn't that hard.

Another thing to check is if the VAFC thinks VTEC is engaging.

Several of the display options let you show whether or not VTEC in and VTEC out are ON or not. If VTEC out is ON but the car isn't in VTEC then it's probably a wiring issue.

Chuckie - I sold this to you and am happy to support you. Bring the car here sometime and we'll do some tests.

The reason why I haven't zero'd everything is because I have been trying to sort it out with the settings. Whats the point of putting all the settings back to stock? I know its the VAFC...simple as that!

I can guarantee you this wasn't happening before the VAFC was installed! I have been running the car with the AEM CAI for well over a year and there has never been a prob.

If you are free this arvo AUSS2000 I will drop by!
