Usless Floor Jack
I purchased a 3 ton service jack and 4 jack stands from Sears a while back. Just used them this morning when attempting to install my x-brace.
Here's a pic
Damn jack is too tall to fit under the car. I'm all stock, BTW.
I raised the car up with the jack provided with the car, used one of the jack stands to hoist her up and tried to use the floor jack to lift from the jack point on the front axle.
It's too far back for the pneumatic jack to be used. I couldn't use the arm to pump (hit the undercarriage)
What are you guys using to jack-up your cars?
Does anyone want a pneumatic jack... cheap?

An easy way to get sufficient height for the cheap jacks (like mine) is to place a 2x4 in front of each wheel and drive up on them. You can now get the jack under the side lift points or the one in the middle of the car for either axle with ease. The only problem I had was getting enough height to allow the handle to move up and down to perform the jacking for the first inch. I just used a short handle (a socket wrench extension works) to get started.
I keep a couple of 18" 2x4 pieces in my trunk at all times.

I gave up on the Sears jack for this reason as well. I found a used 2 ton Milwaukee jack at a local hydrailics repair shop. It works great, but just fits under the front bumper on my spoiler-less car. It will be the last jack you ever need to buy!
Jeff - before getting this jack, I used 2x10s as ramps for the car so that the Sears jack would fit under the front. Aren't the 2x4s kind of narrow?

what he said.... any small piece of wood will work to raise the car enough to get the jack under it.... guys take the wood to the track or in the garage.
keep the jack!

bjechols: I would be interested in a group buy on a reasonably priced floor jack with a lowered height under 4". I can't see paying $550 for an aluminium jack. I'm even choking at paying $150 for one from Northern Tools. See what your dad says. Heck, if he wants to wholesale them, I might have a vendor who wants to sell them.
