Default UOA on PLM filter

Here's the UOA on MY 06 with Castrol 10-30, the PLM filter installed by mistake by my dealer, 5500 mile interval. Total miles approx. 11,000.

Element Value Avg

Aluminum 4 5
Chromium 0 1
Iron 6 9
Copper 20 5
Lead 4 2
Tin 1 1
Moly 135 82
Nickel 0 1
Manganese 0 1
Silver 0 0
Titanium 0 0
Potassium 1 1
Boron 10 80
Silicon 15 10
Sodium 0 10
Calcium 1789 2148
Magnesium 8 277
Phosphorus 750 733
Zinc 943 863
Barium 1 0

Sub Visc 55.9
Flashpoint 385
Fuel 0.5
Antifreeze 0.0
Water 0.0
Insolubles 0.4

TBN = 2.2

Now I'm not at all knowledgeable when it comes to UOA's, but these levels seem to me to be pretty consistant with other S2's with approx. the same miles on the clock, and certainly supports everyones opinion that while the PLM filter is not the ideal filter, it's not going to cause any harm, at least in the short term.

Think I may have caught the analysis bug. Kinda curious to see my UOA of the Amsoil and PCX filter I'm now using.

PLM filter may or may not cause engine harm, but it is a risk and i think you are lucky. Did you know the dealer installed the PLM filter and you decided to continue using it? Or did you find out about it at the next oil change?......

Gotta love Honda service

This looks like a nice UOA. The filter appears to be filtering properly. I think the PCX filter was designed for greater flow over the PLM in the S2K, which would allow for greater oil pressures in the F20C. Operating in the VTEC range is the biggest benefit of using the PCX. I recommend that you do your next UOA after the 2nd fill of Amsoil (OCI).

Nope. I didn't discover the mistake until time for my next oil change. The dealer admitted the mistake when I brought it to their attention, but by then it had been on for about 5500 miles.

I've had several problems with quick lube shops, so I had my dealer do the oil change so this kind of thing wouldn't happen. In my dealers defense however, I've done business with them for the last 17 years, and this is the first time they've done a service or repair incorrectly. They have admitted the mistake and offered to make amends, but the good news is it appears no harm was done.
