Default Unusual ticking noise

My S200 is a 1999 with 40k miles, standard everything. My issue is when cold (and sometimes hot) I get a very strange faint ticking/rattling noise which I can't pinpoint exactly. I have done the following
1 new tensioner pulley
2 new idler pulley
3 vavlve clearances checked and spot on
4 all heat shields checked and ok
5 even removed cat to see if internals were loose (which they weren't)

I am assuming it is nothing major as it has done it since I had the car 10k ago and it drives perfect etc

Here is a quick video, it is a very faint noise but it is there.

I do hear the rattling...perhaps an under the hood video would help. It could be something as simple as your hood prop being loose. Have you checked your TCT (or is that what you are referring to when you say tensioner pully)?

Hey guys. I have the same "issue" and sound from my MY05. The sound is more noticeable when the hood is propped open, so it cant be the hood prop. Any ideas to what this is? It sounds like marbles rattling around in the engine.

Tensioner pully is the serpintine belt tensioner. Both of these guys could have bad TCT, Timing Chain Tensioner.

Search for video clips of bad TCT, and see if it sounds like your issue. Its an easy DIY on this car. Get the new part from Billman, as he has found a fix to stock Honda parts issue of new ones going bad soon after replacement. Just PM Billman250 and ask for a TCT.

Search on here for DIY instructions. Just make sure you understand all the steps before you start. Its an easy job, but you can screw it up.

100% piston slap, not TCT or bearing noise. Completely normal, nothing to worry about.

Never occurred to me it could be piston slap ! I had an Impreza years ago with piston slap and it was more of a knocking noise

Yeah, strange but true. I've had 4 S' and every one of them has done it except for my 01' that I have now. My 03' with 39xxx miles does it, and my last 02' did it from the day I bought it to 145k miles. It's annoying but not troublesome.
