unexplained rear main seal failure

The only time I have seen rear main failures on a mostly stock Honda other than just really high miles is from engines being sludged up and the sludge pushes the seal out.

Was there anything out of the ordinary on the one you just fixed? Maybe they got a batch of bad seals

With shavings in the oil pan.... sorry, but I don't think so.
Shavings = damage.
