Default uneven steering effort

hi all. i picked up a my00 ap1 from a friend for a good deal and it has just one issue. the effort it takes to turn the steering wheel to the left is much harder than turning to the right. any idea how to fix this? is it a matter of reseting the eps? thanks for any of your help!

have you try checking under the car to see how the balljoints or control arms are?

Has the EPS ever been reset? Do you know if the transmission has ever been removed? These are both (the second one appears to be much less well known) causes for the EPS torque sensor to need a reset. I had a problem similar to yours after my transmission was replaced, and the reset has fixed it 100%.

just do the torque sensor neutral position procedure its gotta be on here somewhere. super easy. my s2000 MY00 had the same problem it got so bad my car felt like it had a mind of its own. anyways after trying to clean all of the electrical connections related to the EPS this solved my problem and its been about 6 months and NOT ONE SINGLE PROBLEM. good luck

Is either low caster on the side it steers easy, or the torque sensor neutral position LEARN needs to be done. This is not a reset. It is teaching the car where neutral steering is.

If the EPS light starts flashing instead of allowing you to do the reset, you likely have a bad EPS control unit (sits right next to the battery)

First, you need to know where your steering wheel sits when going down a perfectly straight/flat road. If its straight, you're good. if its off, dont bother with the reset, get an alignment first.

Learn procedure: NOTE...with each position (straight or 45 degrees to the left), you must take your hand OFF THE STEERING WHEEL. The book tells you to hold it in position, but that will not work. so, put it to position, and LET GO OFF THE WHEEL. The system is untra sensitive and will detect micro movements of the wheel by your hand and the LEARN will not work.

So...

-key off
-point wheels straight ahead, steering wheel dead center 12 oclock.
-turn key on for 3 seconds, then off
-jump pins 4 and 9 of the OBD2 connector
-turn wheel 45 degrees to the LEFT. let go.
-turn key on. EPS light will come ON, then go off after 4 seconds.
-within 4 seconds of eps light going OFF, return wheel to 12 oclock straight and let go
-eps light will come on in about 4 seconds. within 4 seconds after the light comes on, turn wheel 45 to the LEFT AGAIN and let go.
-eps light will go off after 4 seconds
-within 4 seconds after the light goes off, turn the whell back to straight 12 oclock and let go. DONT TOUCH THE WHEEL NOW

-If done correctly, the eps light will blink twice 4 seconds after you returned the wheel to straight, and then ANOTHER THREE BLINKS will follow 5 seconds after that. It should then go off and stay off. if the light stays on, you messed up.

This will take practice, but you can do it
