While a friend was changing out my right rear bearing this morning, we noticed this after pulling off the rotor...

Inboard side of the right rear rotor




We took a peek at the left side, and it was the same. Contact between the pad and rotor on the outboard side is normal. Anyone have an idea of what is going on? Obviously, the inboard pad is only making contact with the outer part of the rotor. All brake parts were swapped out about a year ago... OEM pads, Powerslot rotors, and the whole system flushed with ATE fluid. All parts have about 5k miles on them. I have not been experiencing any issues with braking though, just thought it looked odd. Only thing that has happened, is a shot rear bearing. Which was replaced this morning. Related?

Have you checked you caliper sliding pins?

Yep. They seem to move smoothly and freely.

Are the pads able to move properly in the calipers? Something's getting hung up somewhere.

maybe the pads just arent cut straight and driving with it some more + hard brake applications will straighten it out?

They already have 5k miles on them, so I don't think more driving would fix it. Plus, they were properly bedded in after install.

My guess would be the bearings. If the rotor was sitting at an angle (because the bearings weren't keeping it true) the pad would only make contact on the outer perimeter, where the travel would be the greatest.

After you have had your bearings replaced, check it again in a few weeks. You may notice the wear is at the OD instead.

You didn't have the pin on the back of the pad aligned with the slot on the piston. Stuck slide pins will not wear a pad like that. If it was a wheel bearing both inner and outer pads would be worn the same way and the wheel would be about to fall the f@#k off.

That sounds about right. I don't recall lining those nipples up on the back of the pad with the piston grooves. I'll definitely fix that ASAP. Any possible damage that could of happened with them not lined up? Just uneven wear? Could this be the culprit to my worn bearing?

I can't remember if the rear pads have a different inner/outer pad - but when - did my front pads I had them reversed and had a similar pattern on one
