underhood plastic panel fasteners
I've got a hopefully simple question. What's the proper way to extract the black plastic round fasteners with what looks like a phillips head screw slot in the top that hold the plastic panels in front of the radiator? They look like the center part should come out but don't want to pull on them too hard.
Thanks

These are two part fasteners. You need to hold the outer part (as this part can easily spin) while you use a Philips driver to unscrew the middle part. Once you get that middle screw out, this will allow the prongs to collapse as you pull out the rest. When you put it back in, squeeze the prongs together to insert them back into the hole, then screw the middle part back in. It doesn't have to be really tight, just flush. The middle screw simply splays the prongs so that the outer part can't come out.
If you are trying to get that slanted airguide out, you will then notice that tucked under the front nose cap, there will be another kind of two part fastener. Those ones, you need to use a fine flat screw driver to lift the centers up about 1/4" (there is a small ridge in the outer part for the blade slip into) and then pull the whole fastener out. These centers do the same task as the Philip screws do for the previous type of fastener.

Thanks for the tips guys. I intially tried unscrewing them with a phillips screwdriver but must not have been making sure the outer part was not turning. Will try again with your info.
