i'm currently having a similar problem on my ap2. At a stand still I can shift into all gears, once the car is moving it will not go into gear. The shop called today and said they were able to shift into all gears during a test drive. There is a whine from the transmission, which from what I've read is most likely the throwout bearing. I don't understand why it would want to go into gear now? I am going to take it out today and see if the shifting problem is still there. Should I have the throwout bearing replaced, or have the shop look into the clutch/transmission more in depth?

They might be forcing it into gear really hard since they don't understand how effortless it should be. If you're going to replace the throwout bearing you might as well just replace the entire clutch assembly.

To clarify, when you say at a stand still do you mean with the car on/off?

Like everyone else that has this issue....clutch fluid should be bled and the freeplay of the pedal should be adjusted.

Clutch does not fully disengage. Not enough throw at the slave cylinder to cause full separation. Either because of air or other contaminents in the lines, or bad seal in master or slave cylinder, or not enough throw at the pedal.

All the things everyone is suggesting address these possibilities.

Its NOT the clutch itself, nor throwout bearing. These would not cause the issue.

The hydraulics and pedal freeplay should be checked first because fixing both should take less than a half hour, and it is virtually free.

But it could very well be a broken diaphragm spring, or a damper spring that has come out and lodged itself somewhere between the pressure plate and flywheel.
