ULTIMATE SYN OIL SHOWDOWN

I have been using Amsoil 10W-30 full synthetic oil in mine exclusively since 14000 miles, changing every 10000 grueling miles. I now have 127000 miles on it and no problems engine related thus far. Amsoil FTW!

Voted other for Eneos 5w-40, I believe that this is one of the few group V oils in the US
Back when the shop that I frequent first got Eneos we did a comparison with Mobile 1 and actually noticed 2-3whp gains across the board. Not saying that us running oils back to back on a dyno is the most scientific comparrison in the world, but I was convinced and have been using it ever since.

API doesn't classify base oil by calling them synthetic or not, they classify them by viscosity index and the way the base oils are refined / produced.
There is a close relation between the VI and the way base oils are refined / produced.

The last link is to an Amsoil site, but AFAIK its correct.
There is a lot of info around, also on Google Books.
No, what seperates the base oils is the way they are refined / produced.
GRP I-III are refined, GRP IV and V are produced.
IMO processing isn't the same as producing.
Hydrocracking is a way to process oil.
Not if you look at the comment I just made above.
Refining / processing isn't the same as producing.
Depending on the application
See.. you do know
As to what oil is best: it depends.
Depends on the application.
Limit the choice of car to the S2000, one could say that cold start temp is an important factor.
The colder the start up temp the "better" it is to use a 5W or a 0W.
(and guess what, Honda thinks too, 5W-40 for colder temps)
I'm using Amsoil SSO 0W-30.
edit: some comments.
API then classified Group III base stocks as a synthetic and shortly afterwards, Mobil 1 started to use Group III base stocks.

what separates the base stocks is just different processing and hydrocracking.

Arguing about Group III vs. Group IV is like talking about politics, abortion and gun control.
Refining / processing isn't the same as producing.
.....both do the job admirably well.
Group IV and V base stocks are synthesized in a lab and are about as pure as a man-made compound can be. Group III base stocks are highly refined and pretty damn close.

I personally tried regular Mobil 1 10W-30, then decided to go synthetic and went Mobil 1 10W-30 Syn, then after experiencing some loss myself (minor but still a loss) after around 3k miles I just did a switch to Amsoil 10W-30 and have no complaints. However I"m just 1k miles into it.
