Ugly noise at startup
It usually happens in the morning when the engine is cold.... immediately after the starter has finished to crank the engine, this awful noise that lasts a second or two... it sounds similar to when the START button is accidentely pressed with the engine running... any ideas what it might be?
Other then that the engine is running perfectly and no other noises...
Any ideas on what it might be?? My warranty is running out soon and I need to have this fixed before something bad happens
thanks for any advice.

It is possible that the Bendix on your starter is not disengaging, causing the pinion gear to remain engaged with the teeth on the flywheel. If this is what's happening, then the starter will have to be replaced. This is definitely a warranty issue.
If this is the problem, then it probably isn't doing any significant damage but over time you could start to round off the teeth on the flywheel.
Since it doesn't happen all of the time, it will be hard to replicate the problem at the dealer. I suggest that you have someone videotape you pressing the start button and hearing the noise. Take it in to the dealer and they will be less apt to second-guess you.

Thanks for the INFO.. I didn't think this problem was so common... I definitely need to get this taken care of before Feb 2005 when warranty says BYE BYE... with my luck the engine will blow up the day after it has expired.. LOL
