Tyre Wear

Tyre Wear
I've just had a chance to take my first really good look over the car since I got it a couple of weeks ago. The car is a 2007 model with and has coverd 20K (miles)
When I took the front wheels off there discovered uneven tyre wear the inside edges of both were badly worn the passenger (left hand side) worse than the drivers side. Apart from the inside shoulder the tyres have about 3.5mm left on them
I tend to think it's caused by excessive negative camber I would welcome opinions.
Thanks
Pete

probably that simple, yes. the car is set-up from the factory like that (and i believe your euro settings are even more aggressive than the US settings) but i would be curious to see how bad the wear is. any pictures?

20k miles is a decent amount on Maximum Performance tires.
But anyway, even with apparent "camber wear", it's toe that kills tire life *much* more than camber.
I.e., if you have a ton of camber and minimal toe, you'll still get OK tire life, with some camber wear.
If you have a ton of toe and minimal camber, you'll get radically shortened tire life though the wear may be even across the tread.

Exactly.
A lot of people mistake inner tire wear with camber wear. In reality its most likely toe wear because the wheels are Toe'd "out", meaning the front of the wheels are pointing away from each other and then rear of the wheels are pointed inward.
OP go get an alignment and make sure your PSI is set to proper specifications.

I had the same prob with my 03 when it was new. It's mostly the OEM alignment and mine was set at the high end of the specs.
I had an alignment shop align all my specs to the min of the range and it helped the tire wear greatly.
That's what worked for me....

+1, i have the same wear from factory settings. Im sitting at 38k on the second set of factory bridgestones so about the same mileage if you divide 38k by 2.. Soft tires and a purpose built set up from the factory

Worth repeating: it's the TOE that's critical. Keep rear toe at 0.3 degrees total or less and enjoy long tire life, even with 2deg camber.
Stock rear toe setting ranges from reasonable at the low end (though you can go lower without issues) to WAY excessive at the high end. Running too much kills tire life *and* makes the handling twitchy/nonlinear. Bad for everything...

Hi Guys
Thanks for the replies very helpful I'll get the toe in/out checked before I replace the tyres.
I agree with your comments on wear rate I got 22K to 25K from my 968cs tyres which I thought was pretty good given the way I excercised it
