TSB 54 - Only in 2nd & 3rd?
I've noticed a buzzing on deceleration, very similiar to what has been described on many posts and in the TSB copy. However, the buzz on my car (MY00 w/10,xxxmiles) also occurs in 4th gear. Additionally, it occurs only at 3,100/rpm (not 3,000 or 3,200).
My questions are:
1) Does the fact that I hear it in 4th gear mean that it is not related to the TSB?
2) Should the 'buzz' occur at different rpm's or throughout the 3k to 4k range?
3) Could it be something else? I recall an issue with a bolt rubbing against a heatshield that produced a similiar sound.
4) If it is a TSB fix, do you suggest anything else be done while the transmission is out? This is a weekend car that is very lightly driven.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.

The "buzz" is not really related to your gear selection. It is a resonance that sets up in your clutch disc springs and is more related to the tranny input shaft (ie. engine/clutch speed).
However, with your buzz at a specific rpm as opposed to an rpm "range", it still could be a heat shield issue.
If you are doing the clutch job anyway, you might consider a H.D. clutch pressure plate and/or lightweight flywheel. Make sure they put in a new throw out bearing and lube the shaft it rides on. Might as well flush and replace the clutch fluid too.
