I own a MY04 and I'm starting to experience this problem with the 2nd gear - it only happens when the car is cold, but now it's starting to annoy me and I'd like to get it fixed.

The diagram above is helpful, but none of the folks who have had the springs replaces commented on the results. Anyone care to share their experience and result with this?

My 05 has been doing it sometimes and it's pretty bothersome sometimes cuz it happens at the worst times.

I replaced all the detent springs and I still have the same popping out of 3rd gear in third gear (or refusing to go into 3rd gear without grinding first). Guess I will have to save up and rebuild the tranny. I am thinking new synchros and bearings all around, and maybe a new 3rd gear shift fork?

Can anyone tell me the price to fix this issue, i plan on buying an S2K without warranty. Hasn't shown any signs of this issue according to seller but how much would the bill be for me if it happened down the road after i purchase?

I have 2005 s2k with 52k miles. I have the same problem with 2nd and 3rd gears popped out (grind) a few times already. Yesterday my first gear popped out, almost stalled and had a loud bang. I thought some one hit me. I guess it's a common problem on the s2k. Honda should issue a recall on their transmission. If more owners would complaint they would take care of the problem. I called Honda Auto Customer Service today and they told me that this is the first time they are hearing this complaint. Anyone else with the same problem please call (800)999-1009 to complain to Honda. Maybe this will help the s2000 owners with their 2nd and 3rd gear problems!

it is strange that honda claim they have not heard about this complaint as it is honda themselves that have released a technical service bulletin on the issue..

I got the same problem kinda with second gear...

It will only pop out right after I've tried to get it into second.

But one day I had a very scary experience - I was stopped at a traffic light, and had her in neutral, and it didn't want to let me put it in any gear for like 75 seconds - I tried to get her into first, 2nd, 3rd, nothing - so I shut it off, restarted it, had the same problem for a few more attempts, then it took it in first, and I haven't had the problem since - anyone else had this problem?

that being said, the 2nd gear issues continue to plague her - I need to look into seeing about getting her repaired for free if I can... but it's going to suck donkeyballs being without my baby for 4 days if that's how long it's gonna take a dealership to fix her and get her back together.

I have a very early 04, i puychased it in nov 03. i have had no issues with my gearbox at all, the original clutch still works...i have 51,000 on theclock so far.

My problems with popping out of gear started to arrive at around the 95000 mile mark. I too have a early 2004 model purchased in November 2003. I have 147500 or so miles on mine now. I am on my third clutch disk now (I probably would have only been on my second still if I had used the correct grease at the first change) I have rebuilt my transmission and the popping out of gear issue is resolved for me.
