Would this fall under something I should bring my 04 in if the 2nd gear pops out sometimes? Normally it happens when I try to shift into or downshift into 2nd. Car has only 9000 miles and the previous owner probably didn't bring it in since he used this as a garage queen.

Does anyone know if this effect the 06? When the car is cold, going to 2nd you sometimes get a "Crunch" sounds?

what I do is to roll in first for a fair while and dont take it out of 1st for about 50 or so metres... then roll it up to about 3000rpm then shift to 2nd... just gives it time to move the gearbox oil around the tranni and also to slightly heat it up... it shifts fine then...

I have 51K miles now and just had the starter replaced yesterday. It was making a grinding noise for a little bit after the engine started sometimes (Bendix slow to retract from the flywheel?).
Anyways, I mentioned to the service writer that I had been experiencing 1st gear popping out of gear a few times while pulling out of my garage in the morning. But yesterday was the first time that this happened after driving for a few miles (starting to move after stopping at a red light). I asked her if she was aware of this problem on other S2K's and she wasn't. I asked her if she was aware of a TSB for 2nd gear popping out and she wasn't. This lady has been working at this dealership for several years, which makes me wonder if these TSB's are never to be acknowledged to a customer upon the first complaint as company policy (sort of like never kissing on a first date). The tech who replaced my starter said the same thing (not aware of a TSB for popping out of gear). I guess I'll just have to wait until it pops out of gear all the time until they let me know there is a TSB for the problem. I just hope the car is driveable at that time.
BTW, I have a 100K mile/unlimited time extended warranty. So it's not like I won't be able to handle the bad news.

I asked my local honda dealer about the 2nd and 4th gear popping out, and they said they have to duplicate the problem before they do any work. It happened to me once already, but it has to happen all tine time before they can fix it. They also stated that the gear would have to be replaced.

Since my last post, i have had the tranny fluid changed and the diff fluid changed, and it still does it. I have documented every-time it does it. Its done this 4 times in the 400 miles i put on the car since I've had it. I mean its getting annoying and i wish they would do it already..I'm out of warranty so I'm basically screwed.

How often does this gear popping out occur? I'm in the market for an AP2 and there doesn't seem to be too many posts on this. So I'm curious about the likelihood I'd pick one up w/ this problem. I'm mainly looking at 06-07 models.

Syncros have nothing to do with popping out of gear...could be just a weak spring holding the detent ball against the shift fork
The detent springs are external pieces and can be replaced in 5 minutes. If you would all like, I can pinpoint which detent spring holds second gear. There are 7 total detent spring/ball assys that can be replaced externally.
