I I hear you. I think I will. It's easy enough.

Thanks thanks, that sounds like an easy thing to do. Especially if I'm having the transmission fluid changed out too.

Years later update: I told Honda about my issue (back in 2010-11) and i think they just fixed it and didn't tell me. I haven't had a "pop out" in 1st or 2nd gear in almost 7-8 years, that i can recall.

It is now August 2019 and I recently bought an 05 with 222k miles (did think about calling Honda to ask for a warranty repair for a laugh) and found the 2nd gear pop out. I followed Thomas Guide's instructions with amsoil MTF and the problem seems to have gone away. I did not expect that to work! Hopefully it stays like this.

I didn't expect it to work either, but so far it has. Hope it does for you too. However, if you do get a recurrence, do another fluid swap; my tech said sometimes it takes twice to get all the old out and new in.

Update: started popping out again today. So far this seems to happen about every 3,000 miles with the Amsoil MTF fluid. First changed at 73K, then 76K, now we're at 79K. First change 4/18, second 11/18, now it's 12/19. There is something wrong with this transmission. Clearly. That fluid should be good for a long time.

I'm also at about 3k miles at 225k now and 3 track days in, so far so good...

ap1 03, 125k. Been having this issue since I got it at 115k. The picture was posted but I don't understand what it's pointing at. Is it on the outside, house of transmission or inside? I found this pic at Hondapartnow within Shift Fork and the parts suggested are cheap. Does anyone know if this requires transmission to be opened?

The detent springs and the bolts that retain them are accessed from the outside of the transmission housing. No disassembly required. My mechanic will be replacing the 2nd gear spring. If that doesn't work, it'll be a $1,600-$1,700 job to replace first and second gear. sets
