Joe, sounds like you had 054 done a while ago. They have actually superceded the original replacement disc for 054 with _another_ part number. Hopefully it will be better.

I didn't mind the noise so much, but my original clutch was getting heavy and shift quality was down. Hopefully this one will stay solid (at least for the next year even if the new disc hasn't improved things - I do about 12k year)

All that was mentioned on the warranty sheet was clutch disc, but you never do clutch work without replacing the throwout bearing.

UL,

I've yet to hear of an '02 clutch w/ 15-20k miles on it. I'd like to know if Honda has finally corrected the problem. Let us know how your clutch holds up, but try to notice when the 'feel' goes away or when the noise starts growing.

As you noted, you should always replace the throwout bearing w/ each clutch service. My dad taught me that.

TSB-054 does NOT apply to the '02. The '02 model supposedly already has the updated parts.

Mine is having this done as we speak. Due to get her back tomorrow, after three days out of service due to TSB054, seat belt recall, auto-down window motor fix, and 30K mi. service.

Two interesting notes:
1. When I first took the car in for recall work and 30K svc, I asked about the fix for the noisy clutch, to which the service rep said: "Even the new ones do that."
2. After they put her in the shop to verify the need for a new clutch, the service rep told me late Fri "Honda doesn't even want vehicles impacted by this problem back on the road until we replace the clutch."

The guy was being nice because I had just learned my nice, long weekend would be spent driving an '03 Civic (auto tranny, to boot!!).

Can't wait to get my car back tomorrow!!
