I have an '02 that grinds into 2nd gear just about every day. I have done several things to reduce the grinding (clutch pedal adjustment and oil change), but I don't think the '02 tranny is really "All That".

I also think the '02 clutch is weak as hell. My engine is basically stock, but I have never been able to generate wheelspin in a straight line (Once the clutch just burned freely up to Redline), and it takes a second or so for the clutch to grab in 2nd and 3rd.

I must be very lucky! My 02's clutch responds like I would expect it
to. No delay in shifting, hits hard in every gear, leaves S02 marks on
demand.

Hi All!!

I need some documentation, where is specifies that 054 TSB applies also to 2001 models.

I saw the bulletin, dated Decembre 2000, and it does not specify it.

Thanks all.

gernby,

I agree with you also, my ,02 is the same way, you were at the BMW event and I saw and heard your tranny, neither of us could get the clutch to hold a dump. I have the 2nd gear grind also, I am going to look at my actual build date on the door panel, there is a possiblity we could have early '02's produced with '01 parts, just aa thought. my vin is 4848.

ok just checked 03/02 build date. We need to face it, they have saved costs and put in a weak clutch and rear end. I'd pay the extra 2k if it came from honda as a higher end clutch/tranny and a rear end that wasn't designed in the '80's from Mazda.

stage 3 clutch, fly wheel and reinforced upgraded rear end are all about 2k, this is the answer now.

TSB 054 calls for the replacement of just the clutch disk. After mine was replaced recently, it feels/drives the way that it should have to begin with. It seems to grab very well, now.

You'll like it,
Bob
