Tale it in and get it documented. Even if they don't find anything. The closer you are to your warranty period the better. They will take the 17k in account and since it is only six months out you should be able to get it done under warranty.
If not and they want over 2 grand to fix it, do what I did and get an 04 tranny put in. The 04 tranny is awesome. Big difference!

When I did take it to the Honda dealership, they did try to say that I needed to buy the extended warranty as I am within the "42 month" period. Since I had already had the 3rd party warranty, I did not take the bait. Now that it is outside of the 42 month period and that is no longer an option, I might have a better chance of getting a concession.
If they push back and I choose not to fight Honda, at least I do have the 3rd party as a good fall back plan.
Now, if I can duplicate the problem with them in the car, then that would be great. The dominos will start to fall.
BTW, great idea on getting an '04 tranny... however, the TSB does not call for a full replacement, but you never know what they suggest. My bet is that it does make it easier on the tech. :-) Now if the 3rd party option is needed, this sounds like a great option!
Thanks,
-Dave

a side question.... other than it slipping out of gear and over revving the engine, by not fixing this problem right away, could it cause bigger problems in the end?
