Is it true you can tell the amount of HP in a car by the sound of exhaust!?

He's only 16 years old. Give the kid a break. It's gonna take quite a few years for him to figure out that not all of those high school B.S. stories are for real.
Example: You have any idea how much HP a stock Hyundai Accent has? NOT MUCH! Imagine removing all the mufflers and resonators from it. It's gonna sound louder than before and louder than (well, you pick - S2000, Corvette, whatever). What do you think?

On the other hand, he could just be a 16 year old kid who's just joking!

6 inch stickers add 6 hp 12 inch stickers equal 12 so basically what you have is 1" of sticker is equivalent to 1 hp

Actually he is correct, you can tell the rpms and roughtly the amount of hp a car has by the harmonics produced by the exhaust notes.

In F1 when competition is cut throat and every hp counts, teams have figured out methods to determine how much power and rpms their competitors are doing by listening to the exhaust harmonics.

You can also get an idea of the compression a motor has by listening to the exhaust note.
