Troubleshooting VTEC problems.
I installed a VAFC-II and had it tuned four days ago. My CEL came on last night, steady not blinking, but I didn't have time to check it and the car was still running great. No noises, clunking, sputtering, and it accelerated into VTEC just fine.
While going to work today I was accelerating as I merged into traffic. When the rpm's hit 6k the car lost power bogged down. It was similar to the 7k fuel cut when the car is cold, but that wasn't it as it happened at the VTEC point and the car was warm. I figured it was the VTEC failing to engage so I stayed at low rpms and finished my drive to work. During my lunch break I checked the blink code for the CEL, it was "2-2 VTEC SOLENOID VALVE".
To me that sounds like a bad connection between the VAFC and the ECU harness, and yes it is hardwired by the way. I'm still at work and can't do anything more right now, so I was just posting to see what others think and if anybody else with a VAFC has had this problem.
Thanks guys, Nate.
P.S. If I reset the ECU to clear the CEL will it screw up the tune? Doesn't make sense that it would but thought that I would ask since I'm here.

What was the actual code? I've been getting a P1259 and it has to do with the vtec solenoid but not the same wording which differs depending on where you're looking up the description. I thought I had it figured out until a few days ago when I threw it again.
re: p.s. You're correct, you won't lose the tune in the vafc with a ecu reset.

Still at work, and since I have nothing better to do I thought I would post my VAFC-II settings because people are always asking for VAFC settings. Also, after some searching and reading I have another question.
I've read that other users prefer throttle settings of 80% and 81% so I think I'll try mine there. I does make sense since I don't need the fuel correction unless I'm hitting it anyways. I should be able to change that setting without re-tuning right? My understanding is that it will simply move the points where the tuned corrections are utilized from lower throttle to higher throttle, nothing more.
Throttle settings:
Low 10%........High 50%
1000 0............5100 -14
1500 0............5300 -17
2000 0............5700 -13
2500 0............6200 -10
3000 -1............6500 -8
3500 -1............6800 -9
4000 0............7200 -2
4500 -3............7700 -3
5000 -8............8000 -6
5500 -10..........8300 -6
6000 -2............8700 -7
6500 -1............9000 -7
VTEC:
L -> H 5600
H -> L 5300
Software version: 2.03a
l8brakr,
I used the blink code to check my CEL, directions and chart are on modifry's website here:

It's a very simple way to check engine codes without the diagnostics tool.

The only CEL code was the 2-2 VTEC SOLENOID VALVE. I've since soldered that connection and increased the throttle points to 80 Low and 81 High. No more CEL code so far and VTEC is normal.
