The shifter, quickly cleaned up. You can be more thorough with solvent, but I just wanted to get fresh grease in so I just got what I could with a rag. Inspect the ball cap for any cracks or chips - if its bad, replace it. Pivot ball at the end of the shifter = 54111-S2A-003 COVER, PIVOT $2.02

I ended up ordering the pivot cover and the change lever ball (54110-S2A-003). Hopefully replacing these two will fix up this issue...
You in Pittsburgh?

When you follow the regrease diy, before you remove shifter, take note of how its oriented. Its possible to put it back in backwards. It leans to one side. Take note of which way it leans, so you put it back in same way.
You'd know it was backwards as soon as you drove the car, shifter would lean wrong way. But dont wanna have to take all apart again.
Also, get some urea grease when you order the plastic shifter pieces. Lube up the pivot joint with that, like regrease diy explains.

Update....
Got the whole assembly disassembled no problem tonight.
After cleaning off the old grease I broke off the old "Seat, Change Lever Ball". (54110-S2A-003, part 7 @ http://www.hondapartsnow.com/genuine...0-S2A-003.html)
I regreased everything and tried to get the new change lever ball on by seating the whole lever on a pipe's opening with the seat in place, and hammering down on the top threads.
Ended up breaking the seat part into two... I guess an aggressive hammering motion is not the right way to get the seat on... any ideas on how to without cracking it?

Maybe warm plastic part in hot water, first?

Good news! Got the new shifter seat on by leaning on it with my body weight.
Whole assembly went back into the car no problem.
The new seat fixed the issue after 8-10 shifts into 5th to break things in.
So refreshing to not have to worry about missing 5th. Also shifter feels like a hot knife in butter after regreasing everything. Thx for your help guys!
