trouble with rotor removal: bolts stripping- help
hello. attempting a bbk upgrade on my 2000 s2k, but having serious difficulties witht the two bolts holding the rotor on. i do not own an airgun, but have tried everything else. Liquid wrench as of yet unsuccessful. i am creating a bigger problem the more i attempt, as these bolts are soft, and i am slowly stripping them. i see two other screw holes on the rotor unused. Is my only option to torgue the rotor down further utilizing the available screwholes?

And if you totally booger them it is no big deal.. drill them through with a smaller bit and the rest of the screw can be removed. As long as you stay in the center the threads will be OK and new screws are easy to find, or you can leave them out as some do.

ok, i tried using a #3 screw extractor (fits 4mm bits) and still not having luck. how difficult would it be to remove the entire assembly and take the rotors to a machine shop? seems like that would be way cheaper than buying and impact drill. your thoughts?

well you could buy an impact wrench and compressor (or electric impact wrench) and then return them.
Ive had this problem and even with an impact driver (different than impact wrench) i couldnt do it. Usually though impact drivers work, they are thick screw drivers that turn when you hit the back of them. So basically you twist it and hit it hard at the same time.
I would reccomend PB Blaster (its better than liquid wrench IMO) and let it soak for a long time with occasional taps.
If all else fails just buy and return an impact wrench (its legal, but shamefull). Or worst case scenario drill them out.

First off let me tell you CD is one of the most informative posters here.....but he is more track inclined. I too recently had to remove the "two screws" and read all the posts. What I learned was the scews were heat seized. The rears no probs..the front PROB! PB Blaster from the rear. Then use an impact driver. I never heard of such a tool and I have done a lot of cars. Even if hyou have buggered the screws this tool will work (with combo of PB Blaster). I know ......I know! I was ready to drill......

An impact driver is a great tool to have in your garage
Also drilling the screws out of the rotor is not that bad at all. I had to do two of mine and it was refreshingly easy. I was prepared for them to put up much more of a fight

so take a small drillbit to the screws til they are gone? any recommendations on bit size to use? This will obviously damage the threads, but replacing the screws are not necessary because of the lugnuts? i just want to be clear so i dont make a bad situation worse... thank you for your patience. this is my first mod on ANY car...
