trouble with invidia exhaust install
i bought a used invidia exhaust from a member here. i was trying to install it and came across a couple problems:
first i dont have any gaskets....did the invidia exhaust come with gaskets? should i go get the material to make one, or is it okay without? the invidia exhaust is a two part system and i am referring to the part where the pipes connect to the muffler piping.
also, this same part i have no bolts for. I don't know if it didn't come with it, or if the guy didn't send the two needed bolts to connect the pipes to me, or what. but they aren't there.
does any know what size bolts i would need for this? i guess i could eyeball it, but any help would be great.
the install was pretty easy, but the no gasket thing kind of through me off, and i can't go much farther without the necessary bolts to connect the invidia pipes too
anybody done the invidia install care to share?
thanks.

there's no gasket where the stock pipes connect though right? just metal to metal? i didn't see a gasket when i disconnected the stock pipes.

from looking at mine without taking it off there should be a gasket at the cat and a gasket where the midpipe connnects to the muffler section.
you will most likely have to order the gasket at the cat from invidia but MIGHT be able to find the other 1 in a parts store if you took measurements of the bolt spacing and size of the gasket. if ordering 1 may as well order both though.
you cant make an exhaust gasket out of gasket paper though.
(my VR4 has NO gaskets. stillen downpipe connects to the O2 housings with ford grey sisicone making the seal. same at the DP-catback connection. no leaks whatsoever after 8 months like this)

as already stated. you need a gasket where the mid pipe connects to your catalytic converter. and then another where the rear exhaust section connects to the midpipe.

alright, i got a good understanding now. thanks guys.
i'll just have to call invidia and get the gaskets and bolts then. a hassle, but may as well do it right the first time.

Hey-
I dont know how Invidia is conpared the Comptech, but I installed my Comptech yesterday. The problem with buying used is that you have to dig out the old gaskets, and replace them. I got mine out with a nail set, a hammer, and some needle nose pliers. I would call Invidia and get a new set, as they are probably different diameters than the stock ones.
The Comptech ones are just ring crush gaskets. Cost like $2 each. I would call Invidia and see if they need replacement when putting onto another car.

Take the piping to your local auto parts store. They will have the gasket in stock. It is a pretty much standard size. When I sold my version 1 of the Invidia, one of the gaskets crumbled. He got another one at the local store.
Don't want to take the entire exhaust down to the store? Trace the flange onto a piece of paper.
