huh, I seem to recall mine being straight...

I guess it could be slight enough not to notice though?

the shift lever on my '04 looks just like the picture above, comes off at a slight angle

Thanks. That's three for three of those who have looked closely at it. It's subtle but it's there.

I never looked at the lever from that angle. The engine and trans both are angled in the chassis, the angled lever is most likely to compensate for it.

The kink in the shifter is normal. Its also the reason the short shifters from JP dont work as well as you'd think. They are bent the wrong way. Thats true for the JDM OEM shifters as well.

In short the LHD and RHD shifters are bent differently. Mirror images of each other.
