Default Transmission removal

Did anyone notice in the lastest honda tuning magazine that they removed the trans without dropping the lower frame?

Looks like it can be done!

I pulled and reinstalled the engine without removing the tranny. Surely that's pretty cool.

How the hell they got to the top bell housing bolts without lowering the sub-frame is beyond me though.

Something has to drop. The engine, or the engine and subframe.

The top bolts CANNOT be removed unless you do.

If you pry the engine down far enough, there a slight change. But anyone who does that to the motor mounts is an idiot.

What is the big deal? It hardly takes much time to disconnect the header, AC lines, compressor, and alternator. Dropping the subframe bolts is quick - there are only threee painful parts in the whole exercise that take time: Accessing header bolts; undoing the tranny bolt hidden above the starter, and working the transmission out without banging up the transmission tunnel (it hangs up on the shaft unless you angle the engine right).

Could the tuners just have lowered the rear subframe and angled out the transmission - I could see that working - but you'd still have to disconnect everything as mentioned. Not sure it buys you much...

BTW - I'm no expert but I did this in my garage on jackstands and didn't think it was too difficult.
