Default Transmission noise after tranny swap

My friend swapped an f22 with ap2 tranny in his ap1. he has been having a weird noise from the transmission tunnel. all bolts are tightened. A mechanic told him that its probably because he put in a 9 lb flywheel and the engine is unbalanced now. i dont think that would be it.

another person told him he might be missing some piece of insulation on the black piece where the shift knob is. Is there a rubber seal or something that goes there? he does not remember his old tranny having anything there

#5 is rubber and mounts to the tranny tail section and to the body on the underside of the car.
#9 is rubber and is part of the shifter (I doubt you are missing this one)
#6 is rubber and mounts over the shifter and to the body from inside the car.

From what I've heard, #12 in that diagram is known to reduce a lot of mechanical noise in the cabin from the trans tunnel but I'm guessing you're having an issue with a new noise that can be heard inside or outside the car?

Check for all the parts mentioned.

I assure you 100% the flywheel is not the cause.

Yes, they can deteriorate over time... I cut a new one for my car out of some left over foam.

(note that I put in 2005. dunno if there's a difference between the years but you should be able to find it under "SHIFT LEVER" on that site)
