Default Transmission flush and gear oil came out

just wondering if anyone puts gear oil in there trannys. I bought a 02 completely stock with 144k. When I drained it the fluid came out but smelled like gear oil. Im not sure if it was or not but it smelled like it. Now I don't think that's normal but I could be wrong.

The Honda mtf is stinky during regular interval changes but is deffly not diff or "gear oil" if that is what you were thinking. I think it's the diff oil that's bad for the yellow metals in tranny it could be vice versa, but anywho there not compatible. Run Honda mtf in tranny and Honda diff in diff.

Honda does not sell gear oil. There are multiply threads on this issue, Amsoil or Redline seem to be picks, I use Amsoil SG 75-110.

Isn't that for transfer cases of FWD cars? Is it ok for RWD diffs, like S2000?

Thanks!

That's not a gearbox additive, it's what the differential uses. Or more technically what I use in the differential.

The gearbox takes 1.6 US quarts during a change. I do mine every other year and she's due again this fall or spring (when ever I decide to do it.).

The differential only takes 0.78 US Quarts.
