Just picked it up from my local mechanic.

He says the noise is coming from the propshaft where it intersects the gearbox.

The only area where there was any play.

Pretty sure I have play there as well but never thought anything of it for years now.

I am going to chuck some money at a newer propshaft and see if this rectifies the issue.

Time to resurrect my own thread, nearly exactly 1 year on!

Anyway, I solved the issue with a second hand prop-shaft with around 50K on it.

Everything has been fine up until the other day. Same issue.

Driving along, brake, change down a gear, as soon as clutch engages there is a very loud clunk. I will attempt to get a video to show you.

One of my diff mounts is showing signs of deterioration however I a certain this is not to blame for the clunking noise (will be replaced soon).

Any ideas?

I think it is the drive shaft cause mine has been doing this forever .. Probably normal .. The drive shaft is the only thing that sounds like that when I move it under the car ... Still does it and all mounts are Megan .. And did the diff collars ...

I get a clunk when I release the clutch from a stop and its free play in my diff (too much, worn out).

Thanks guys. I will get a video up asap for confirmation.

I can make do the noise on cue now. Every down shift and I bring the clutch up really quickly in a snapping fashion. Also most like I'm shocking the drive train.
