Default Trans Bearing Question

Before I put my clutch in (about 15-1600 miles ago) my trans was rattling. Like you've heard before...."when I let off the gas it rattles in gear"....so when i put my clutch in I put in a new release bearing as well. But it is still rattling when I let off the gas. What else could this be? And if it is just a bearing am I ok with getting away with it for a little while w/o it hurting the clutch or trans. the car is shifting fine, everything seems ok, its just the annoying rattle when you let off the gas. thanks in advance.

If the problem occurs during deceleration at about 4,000-3,000 rpms in 3rd or second you need to replace the Clutch disc. (P/N 22200-PCX-055). This was covered in Service Bulletin 00-054.

Even with the new clutch disc, they still will have a slight decel buzz/rattle. The noise will be reduced but not eliminated.

exedy hyper carbon is in there now. no more than 1700 miles on it. there was an exedy hyper single in the car when i bought it, but i fried it b/c the clutch master cylinder was leaking, so i'm guessing it lost pressure and thats why i fried it.

That's why it's noisy, The Exedy transfers more noise than the stock part.

you think thats all it is? it does get loud, especially when its hot, but its all smooth and everything shifts like a dream. so i guess i just have to get some sound dampening stuff to put under there.

thats great slows thanks for the help.

if anyone else has input or agrees with slows let me know.

thanks
dan

The Hyper carbon looks like it can use either a sprung center hub, or a solid hub. If it's a solid hub, it will definitely be much noisier than stock. Every sprung hub clutch will transmit drivetrain backlash noise through the clutch hub.

The location of the S2k's clutch in the car makes the noise very noticable. The updated OEM disc still transmits noise, just less than the original.

I highly doubt Exedy is much worried about how quiet the clutch is under decel. I'm betting Exedy's concern is how much abuse it will take.

aint no doubt about it. from what exedy says this clutch can handle some shit. i'm just glad everything is ok and i dont' have to worry about replacing something else.
