Tranny Trouble
A few months ago, at an autox, after my final run, I noticed my car was vibrating abnormally at idle. I turned it off and let it sit for about 15 minutes, and it was fine.
Tonight I had a few spirited runs, and after one of the runs, I noticed the vibration was back. I drove home (15 minute drive) normal, and then stopped in front of my house. With the car still running, I popped the hood and didn't hear anything abnormal, so I turned the car off and turned back on. As it turned over, I heard what sounded like some kind of metallic banging noise coming from the area around the tranny.
I let the car sit for an hour or so, and then went to get some food. It was still doing it. Then ten minutes later, it stopped. A few minutes before it stopped, I made a u-turn under a bridge, and as I came out of the turn, I noticed the shifter seemed to be pulled to one side then went back to normal as I straightened out.
My first thought was maybe something's up with the tranny mounts. But with it stopping after a while, I begin to wonder if its anything in the actual tranny.
The vibrating was very pronounced in the clutch pedal when I had the car in gear, but the clutch completely down, yet was noticeable everywhere else when fully in neutral and at idle.
Any ideas?

I would put the car on a lift to look for obvious problems. It sounds like a part of the pressure plate or clutch has broken off and is causing the vibration. Although I'm baffled about the shifter not returning to the neutral position.

No, the shifter returns fine. It just felt like the entire tranny was pulled away for a second, like it was loose.
And the vibration only happens after a hard run, and stops after a while.
