Default Tramission shifting problems

I am having problems with my 2004 S2000 with really rough changes, mainly between 1st and 2nd. The same problem happens to a much lesser degree between 2nd and 3rd.
Basically I hardly ever get a normal slick shift between 1st and 2nd, sometimes it's almost as though I didn't used the clutch. It gets notchy between 2nd and 3rd but nothing like as bad.

The problem never occurs going the other way i.e 3rd to 2nd or 2nd to 1st, and the problem seems to be getting worse now that the UK is cooling down for winter.
My local dealer is dismissing the problem - "all S2000's have a slightly notchy gear change because of the short throw". I'm afraid I don't believe them.

Has anyone experienced similar problems and have a case I can present to my dealer. (The car has 5 months warranty left on it).

Apologies in advance if this topic has been raised before, I am new to this forum.

This seems basic, but try putting some different tranny gear oil. I have some Redline MTL in mine and it is still notchy from 1st to 2nd ONLY when its cold. after 5 mins of driving it all goes away. Try that out if you have not done so allready. There is much info on different gear oils on the forum. Good luck

Different or just some fresh Honda MTF.
Have a look here:

Maybe your local Honda dealer allready has it in stock or is able to order it.

You could also check the shifter bushings and see if there is enough grease there.
If the one at the bottom is worn, you may not allign up properly.
They are cheap to replace, just remember to warm them up in boiling water to soften & expand them before pushing them on to the shifter.

Let us know what you find.

Thanks for your thoughts.

I've now noticed various people commenting on their car's habit of jumping out of gears. Mine did use to jump out of 1st when pulling away from stationary. This caused a load crunching of gears as well. It seems to have stopped now but I wonder if the bad 1st to 2nd shift could be related?

My car goes in for a service next week so I'll talk to them about a change of transmission oil. I'll keep this thread updated.

Thanks

If your car falls into the "gear popping out" tsb, then get it done.

also change your transmission fluid and see if it helps.

I have the same problem... it also happens to me when i'm pulling out of 3rd... currently I'm just hoping its the cold weather... (its starting to get very cold here in Seoul)... I noticed that during prolonged driving, the problem dissappears... so I'm thinking its the weather.... here's a link with my issue...

I have the same problem in my 02 S2K. Mostly 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd. It's really annoying. But only happens sometimes. Happens more than it dosent. My car has 23k miles on it. Since winter is coming up it seems to be more notchy and stiff. I put some new Honda MTF in it and no change really. I was wanting to try the redline or something but was told to stay away from it during the winter.
