it would be intersting because it seems they would be very comparable since 4.77 has the extra torque but for a given speed and gear its rpm is a few 100s higher the 4.1 and Given the 04 8200 rpm with more torque along the rpm range, it seems to achieve the same goal. doesn't it?

As posted earlier on another thread

I put 4.78 since 43 / 9 is 4.7777777777777...

This album is open to view by the way.

I gathered a few more numbers and graphs:

2003

2003 with 4.44

2003 with 4.56

2003 with 4.77

2004

The MY00-03 would have the equivalent of a 5 to 10 lbft torque advantage thru the range with the exception of the very top end (last five hundred rpms) where the my04 has an advantage. That's for gear 1 to 4.

5th and 6th would have an even larger difference at the cost of top speed.

Thanks. That adds another interesting aspect to this discussion.

it's really going to be interesting once we see someone increase the redline on the 2.2l motor. I strongly suspect that another few hundred rpm might be a very useful overrun for each gear, but I guess we'd have to check for piston to valve clearance.

Anybody know if the AEM EMS can be used with the '04?
