total seal piston rings
#11
i am recieving 5% leakage and it is coming from the lower end because i can hear it coming from the oil galleys that return oil backdown to the lower end. in a normal engine 10% is acceptable (stock) anything over that is questionable.there is also no leakage from the valves because there is no air rushing out of the throttle body nor could i feel or hear any air coming from the exhaust. if anything i really suspect the rings of not seating yet. the only thing that is throwing me off is the compression numbers, and the leakdown.if it was the rings why would it produce such good numbers. the vacuum gauge tell me that the head is breathing fine and that the upper end of the head is good and sealed. which leads me to believe that the rings are the only cause. is the outcome really worth it ? i mean how much better can it get? 3% leakage? will the compression get any better than it is now?
