OH yeah, I forgot to say that stuff is nasty - the fix-a-flat I use it in a pinch, but it throws the balance waaayyy off. When the tire came off (of a different car) it wasnt worth repairing, and after you get to see the foam inside a tire you understand how it would never work really well. It just foams up all lop-sided and even though I drove around immediately like the can says, it was still only on half of the tire.

I'll be changing the tires out tonight anyway since there's an auto-x this weekend, so I'll try and find the hole with some soapy water then.
On a relatively tiny hole (*not a tear*), fix-a-flat is as permanent as going and getting the tire patched.

The problem is, it makes an unbelievable mess, and you wind up with unused liquid/gunk sloshing around in your tire. When the tech goes to replace the tire, or remount it on another rim, or anything, he shoots nasty, smelly gunk all over the place. That's bound to piss him off, and pissed off tire techs don't pay nearly as much attention to balancing the wheel and not scratching the rims.

The only time I ever used that crap was for bicycle tires. Worked great.

Cheers,
Ben

This thread is a good endorsement for the smartire system I just installed (see https://www.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.php?...?threadid=32063)

BTW, when I asked the tyre shop about tyre fixing cans they said the foam was easily cleaned off the wheel. I was not so much concerned about the tyre as I wouldn't feel confident driving with a patched up tyre on this car.

Now, with the sensor inside the wheel I am a bit more reluctant to use these type of cans and probably just call for assistance as I shed the spare...

Just say no to fix a flat..that stuff it totally nasty and make sure you tell anyone changing that tire or balancing it or anything that it has fix a flat..the stuff comes loose and rolls around in your tire and really makes a mess of your rim and is a tire shops worst nightmare...stay far away if possible!!
