How often do these things fail?

I get the impression that the torque sensor failure rate isn't well known by the community. This might be due to the fact that a used EPS rack (complete with torque sensor) can be purchased for less than a brand new torque sensor, so it can be more cost effective to just swap the entire rack. As a result, the root cause of steering problems often isn't known. Again, this is just my impression based on the posts that I have seen.

I've heard of 6 TQ sensor failures, all old cars, all of them sit for long periods.

You'll hear more about the problems , then all them without .
My issue was completely self inflicted. It seems that some people have weird feedback at times with the steering wheel , others will get an EPS code , which wont reset until the issue is fixed.
If you come across a known good one for cheap , id keep it for spares. Depending on what the car has been through , ie near salt water or driven in the winter my also be room to be concerned due to the build of the sensor.

It was mentioned that the AP2 part fits the AP1. I cannot confirm tho...looking on to solve my own wandering steering issue. Hope I can find a new one if needed !

From what I've heard talking to various honda service groups is that the AP2 part does NOT fit the AP1. Has anyone with an AP1 successfully replaced theirs with an AP2 part? My steering is starting to act up really bad, with the suspect being the EPS torque sensor.

On a related note, Rockauto has remanufactured (AC Delco) steering racks that appear to include the torque sensor. The entire rack is cheaper than the OEM sensor..but it is aftermarket. Anyone brave enough to try it?

I would like to know for sure if an ap2 torque sensor will fit my ap1. I have been dealing with steering issues for years now. The steering seem to be hard to turn one way but easy to turn the other way and some times when i start the car when cold the steering wheel will turn. This all only happnes when the car is cold and not warmed up so its not super bad but i would like to get it fixed.
