Default Top not closing all the way

I had my 06 S2K sitting with a friend as I was out of country. I recently picked it up and realized that the top had a problem extending all the way. The motor and the frame seem to be all right but it seems the very last part of the top stops just short (about an inch) of the alignment. I then have to physically push it down to get it back in the position and put on the locks. The cloth and the elastic strap are in a pretty bad shape and I plan to replace them in the next week or so but I doubt if that's whats causing the problem. Any insights on what maybe happening?

Just a suggestion, after I replaced my soft top and went to put it all the way up after I was done it stopped about 2 inches from the windshield frame (obviously the top was brand new and needed time to stretch to close properly). But after I looked everything over for a min I noticed that the forward most bow was not completely in the forward position and it made the top have less slack which in turn gave me the huge gap. I know you didn't replace the top but thought it wouldn't hurt to help with an answer to a similar problem I had.

I took it to a mechanic today as it needs a soft top replacement. He said, they can adjust the frame once they install the new top and that should fix it. I will update once I hear more from them..thanks

i also got a new top installed. just the cloth part and it stops short by an inch or so. So I have to grab that handle in the middle and pull down while i snap the driver's side in first. Then passenger side is easy. Was told it should stretch out but doesnt bother me all that much.

Just dont over push the top button and dont keep working the motor once the top is fully extended or refracted, that's how you get leaks in the cylinder.
