Toda Pistons and FRM cylinder walls
#13
Does Toda specify a recommended bore clearance? The differences in materials, design and heat profiles mean that different pistons will expand by different amounts and often into different shapes. I've seen pistons pickup on cast iron liners with similar damage to those pictured where insufficient bore clearances were used.
I normally use 3-4 thou bore clearance in race motors with forged pistons (81mm bore). If you use the factory clearances of 1 thou the pistons will pickup on the bores in no time at all.
Chris.

A member in Australia is running a set of Jun pistons with 17psi in the stock shortblock without any problem. He's looking at changing them to Toda soon. I don't know for sure whether the Toda pistons will have problem or not but if Toda say so then it's unlikely given that the Jun pitsons are ok.
