Some people are getting more than 15000 miles from their tires. I had 18000 when I replaced mine, and they still had tread left. The rubber had lost a lot of grip, though. My S2000 is a daily driver, so the bulk of its miles are commuting with no high-G turns. I do drive it hard at every opportunity, and had four track days on those tires, but that's only a fraction of the total miles.
I think people who go through their tires in 5000 miles are driving a higher percentage of fun miles than I am. Consider yourselves lucky!

I replaced my first set after about 12,000 miles. It took about 20 months to put those miles on and about 40% were autocross and track miles. The rears were very bald, the fronts still had some tread left.

My first set of S02's in rear only lasted 5,000 miles before I hit the tread wear bar.
Of course my 1st autocross in the car was at 900 miles...and I must have done tons of clutch drops also.

Treadwear ratings between manufacturers are not always consistant. A Michelin with a treadwear of 160 will not wear at the same rate as a Yokohama with a treadwear of 160.

my first set of rears lasted 9k miles before it was noticably less effective, but I kept them to the end at 13k. My second set of rears lasted until 21k miles. I replace my fronts at about the same time as the second set of rears. Each set or rears had one track day on them and the rest standard hwy and weekend hill driving f0or fun.

Mine seem to hold up reasonably well at almost 15,000 miles. The rear ones are almost at the wear bar, though. I have been thru 8 track days and just about as many auto-x days on them. I have, however, had them rotated once (tires off the rims and switched left <-> right) and driven modestly on the street - very few high-speed cornering, fast accelerating, or hard stops. I also had a 3,500 miles trip, so that's another major reason why my tires lasted so long.
