AEM EMS installation.. you have to calibrate the timing on the ECU with the timing in the car.. You could sort of manually guess it, but then you wouldn't know what your actual timing was..
For example, you could advance it 3 degrees but you wouldn't know exactly what you were advancing it to, know what I mean? The value the EMS would have is uncalibrated.

You have to pull the signal off the wiring loom coming into the coil harness. Its at the back of the valve cover. You'll probably have to cut the insulation off and the select one of the coil signal leads. Its a PITA.
Later Honda coil on plug cars have a dedicated wire loop that you can put the inductance lead on.

Is this the same sort of thing that a Dynojet rpm sensor requires? If so, it should be pretty easy. I use the furthest forward coil for ease of access, get all three wires straight in a row, flat against the sensor. Otherwise, the rpm signal is very unreliable.
