Anyone know where to connect it? I don't seem to get a signal from the cables, plus there isn't much moving room there..

would the ignition timing ever be off on a distributorless car? also, there's no timing "angle" to adjust. just curious what you are trying to fix.

You can adjust the base timing. On the Miata, advancing the timing from 10BTDC to 14 or even 18BTDC was/is a free way to eek out a little extra power.

AEM EMS installation.. you have to calibrate the timing on the ECU with the timing in the car.. You could sort of manually guess it, but then you wouldn't know what your actual timing was..

For example, you could advance it 3 degrees but you wouldn't know exactly what you were advancing it to, know what I mean? The value the EMS would have is uncalibrated.

You have to pull the signal off the wiring loom coming into the coil harness. Its at the back of the valve cover. You'll probably have to cut the insulation off and the select one of the coil signal leads. Its a PITA.

Later Honda coil on plug cars have a dedicated wire loop that you can put the inductance lead on.

Isn't that the purpose of the RPM inductance "connector" on the driver's side, just below and to the side of the brake fluid container?

Is this the same sort of thing that a Dynojet rpm sensor requires? If so, it should be pretty easy. I use the furthest forward coil for ease of access, get all three wires straight in a row, flat against the sensor. Otherwise, the rpm signal is very unreliable.
